18Th CenturyGeorge Iii Gold Spade Guinea Bracelet. H5174 18th Century George III Gold Spade Guinea Bracelet. H5174
+ Six English Spade Guineas, dated 1782,1784,1787,1788 and 1789, one date obscured.
+ Total Weight = 53.9 Grams (app)
+ The Spade Guinea was larger than a Sovereign, and worth 21 Shillings, a Sovereign being
worth 20 Shillings or One English Pound. The Spade Guinea was so called because of
the spade shaped shield on the reverse. The Guinea was considered to be “up-market”
and some high quality items were priced in Guineas.
+ The Guineas are all genuine, made into a bracelet using Yellow Gold Clasp & links, tested as
approx. 18ct Gold.
+ The Guineas were in excellent condition, as shown in the photographs, when chosen to
make the bracelet, so the bracelet was probably made in the period shortly after 1789.
